Mindfulness is an essential component in my personal and professional life. I had the opportunity to attend a training led by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, at The Omega Institute. I also attended a year-long program at the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy based out of Boston, MA.
I then incorporated mindfulness practices into individual therapy of all ages and developed “Mindful Tools for Teens,” a psychoeducation group for teenagers.
“Mindfulness is a lifetime’s journey along a path that ultimately leads nowhere, only to who you are. Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally.”
- Jon Kabat-Zinn
Mindfulness practices include: Guided instruction in meditation practices, gentle stretching and yoga, mindful communication exercises and practice materials to use at home.
Utilizing these strategies can enhance one’s ability to:
- Relax
- Concentrate
- Regulate emotions
- Improve academic and career performance
- Find balance, clarity and stability
"Participating in Libby’s group helped me to be less anxious with school and studying. Using what I have learned has built my self-confidence, which has helped me have better relationships with my friends and family."
